Memory Postcards / Love Letters To West End
A collective imagination project and archive presented by West End Community Association and Rachel Monique Walker. Activations take place yearly at the Kurilpa Derby, West End’s famous festival on wheels.

Memory Postcards is a craft station that is set up yearly at Kurilpa Derby for event visitors to creatively and collectively imagine, remember and share stories about the suburb we love through collage. It’s open for people of all ages to contribute.
Archival photographs are provided from the community with permission, and these become the source material for a crafting activity; visitors craft their own collage postcards using photographs, drawings, tape, fabric, stickers and other sustainably sourced craft materials.
Typewriters and letter writing equipment are also provided for people to write their own ‘Love Letters To West End.’
Crafters are invited to contribute their finished postcard or letter (or a photograph of it) to our growing archive.
An unexpected outcome of the 2025 Memory Postcards project was the great number of children who saw the craft station as their space and spent many hours together crafting. We’re excited to provide this space again in September 2026 for the younger members of our community, and everyone else who is interested in collective imagining.

Contributions to the photograph (source materials) archive
Do you have any Kurilpa/West End photos, past or present, to share? Contribute to our photo collection and enjoy seeing other people make Memory Postcards from your images. Currently our photograph archive is small-ish. We’d love to include a broader range of perspectives and lived experiences of Kurilpa in our collage materials.
